⢠Front speak ers x 2 ⢠Center speak er x 1 ⢠Surround speak ers x 2 ⢠Subwoofer x 1 ⢠Speaker cor ds x 6 Front left (White) T aiwan model All other models This is a standard multichannel surround sound speaker setup for optimal 5.1 channel home theater sound. 1 Attach the smaller non-skid pads to the base of each of the front and center speakers. Use the adhesive to attach 4 pads to the base of each speaker . 2 Connect the speaker system. Refer to Setting up your DVD/CD Receiver (the other part of this setup guide) to connect the speakers properly. Place them as shown in the diagram at far left for optimal surround sound. 2 Connect the speaker system. The base of each surround speaker fits into the circular groove on the top of the front speakers as shown. 3 Secure the speaker wire. After testing for the slack necessary to turn the speaker (see the following step), use the groove provided to secure the speaker wire as shown. Leave 5 cm of slack from the speaker terminals so the upper (surround) speaker can turn freely. T urn each surround speaker so that the î arrow at the base is lined up with the î FRONT SURROUND arrow on the front speaker . This is only necessary with the FrtMovie or FrtMusic modes. With ExtPower (Extra P ower), line up the î arrow with the î EXTRA POWER arrow (the surround speakers should be in the same direction as the front speakers). See the operating instructions for more on the Front Surround modes. This setup is ideal when rear surround speaker placement isnâÂÂt possible or you want to avoid running long speaker cables in your listening area. Front speak ers Caution ⢠T o prevent accidents, make sure the surround speaker is placed securely on top of the front speaker . ⢠Please don't attach the speakers to the wall or speaker stands for Front surround 3-spot setup. Center speak er At tach the lar ge non-skid pads t o the base of the subwoofer ( Singapore/Indonesia/Hong K ong/Phillipines/Mala ysia models ) Use the supplied adhesive to attach 6 pads to the base of subwoofer . : Non-skid pads Center Listening position Center Listening position Surround left Surround right Front left Front right Subwoofer Choose your subwoofer placement (T aiwan model only) The subwoofer supplied with this system can be placed upright or on its side (flat). Choose the position that works best for your room, then attach the large non-skid pads as shown at right. Se t ting up y our D VD/CD R eceiv er 1 1 2 3 Check that you ha ve all the accessories, then put the bat teries in the r emote control. Video cord Batt eries and remot e control FM antenna Microphone (for Auto MCA CC setup) AM loop antenna 2 Connect the AM and FM antennas t o the rear panel of the D VD/CD receiv er . 1 2 3 Push open the tabs, then insert one wire fully int o each terminal. Release the tabs t o secure the AM antenna wir es. Pull off the prot ective shields of both AM antenna wir es. 4 Fix the AM loop antenna t o the att ached stand. T o fix the stand to the ant enna, bend in the direction indicat ed by the arrow ( fig . A ) then clip the loop onto the stand ( fig . B ). Note: If you plan t o mount the AM antenna to a wall or other surface, secur e the stand with screw s ( fig. C) before clipping the loop to the stand. Mak e sure the reception is clear . 5 6 Place the AM antenna on a flat surface and point in the direction giving the best reception. DonâÂÂt let it come into contact with met al objects and av oid placing near computers, television set s or other electrical appliances. Connect the FM wire antenna t o the FM UNBAL 7 5 ⦠antenna t erminal. For be st results, ext end the FM antenna fully and fix t o a wall or door frame. Don â t dr ape loosely or leave coiled up. Note: The signal earth ( H) is designed t o reduce noise that occurs when an antenna is connect ed. It is not an electrical safety earth. When connecting this sy stem or changing connections, be sur e to switch the pow er off with the ST ANDBY/ON but t on, and disconnect the pow er cord from the A C outlet. Do not use these speak ers with any o ther syst em or amplifier as this ma y result in damage or fire. 3 Connect each speaker using the color -coded speaker cor ds. Match them to the color ed speaker t erminals on the rear panel of the D VD/CD receiver . 1 2 3 Connect each speaker as sho wn below . T wist and pull off the prot ective shields on each wire. Connect the wires t o the speaker . Match the colored wire with the color -coded label (above the t abs), then insert the colored wire int o the red ( ) tab and the other wire with the black (âÂÂ) tab. Connect the other end to the color - coded speaker t erminals on the rear of the D VD/CD receiver (as shown at left). Mak e sure to insert completely . The small lug at the wire-end of the speaker plug should face up or down depending on whether it's being plugged into one of the upper or lower thr ee speaker terminals. Please mak e sure to connect correctly. F or the best surround sound, setup y our speaker s as abov e. The front left and right speaker s should be about 1.8âÂÂ2.7 m apart. Congratulations! When you connect or disconnect the speaker cables, to pr event the risk of electric shock, do not touch uninsulat ed parts before disconnecting the power cor d. Connect the DVD/CD r eceiver t o your TV , then connect the supplied pow er cord. 3 Connect the power cord t o the AC inlet. 2 Connect one end to a video input on your TV . Use the supplied video cord. 4 1 Using the remote contr ol The remote contr ol can be used within a range of about 7 meters fr om the remote sensor on the front panel, and within a 30 degr ee angle. Precautions: ⢠The remote contr ol may not work if there is an obst acle between the r emote control and the displa y unit, or if the remote contr ol is not directed t owards the remot e sensor of the display unit at the correct angle. ⢠The remote contr ol may not work properl y if strong light such as direct sunlight or fluorescent light is shining onto the unit â s remote sensor . ⢠The remote contr ol may not work properl y when this unit is used near devices emit ting infrared r ays, or when remote contr ols of other devices which use infrar ed ray s are used. Also, the use of this remot e control may cause other devices t o work improperly . ⢠When the operating r ange of the remote becomes t oo short, replace the bat teries. Remote contr ol battery caution Incorrect use of batt eries may cause leakage or rupture. Alway s be sure to follow these guidelines: ⢠Alway s insert batterie s into the bat tery compartment correctly matching the positive ê and nega tive ÷ polarities, as shown b y the display inside the compartment. ⢠Never mix new and used ba tteries. ⢠Bat teries of the same size may ha ve different voltages, depending on brand. Do not mix differ ent brands of bat teries. ⢠When disposing of used bat teries, please comply with governmental r egulations or environmental public instruction's rules that apply in your country or ar ea. ⢠In order to pr event bat tery leakage, remov e the bat teries when not using the remot e control for an extended period (one month or mor e). If leakage occurs, carefully wipe aw ay any bat tery fluid inside the compartment, and replace the bat teries with new ones. ⢠Do not allow books or other objects t o rest on top of the remote contr ol, since the butt ons may be depressed, causing faster exhaustion of the ba tteries. Additional notes on connecting ant ennas ⢠Keep antenna cables a way from the main unit and o ther cables. ⢠T o assure optimum recep tion, pull the FM antenna so that it is fully extended and no t coiled or hanging at the rear of the unit. ⢠If reception with the supplied antenna is poor , see the Other connections section in the main operating instructions for det ails on connecting outdoor antennas. Additional notes on speak er placement If your listening r oom is of adequate size, place the speakers as shown in step 3 t o achieve the optimum surround sound effect. If you are list ening in a fairly small room and a typical surround speaker setup is not possible, see Home theater sound setup in the instruction manual and the Speaker Setup guide for information on the Front surround 3-spo t setup option. When using the standard surround speak er setup as shown in step 3, please observe the follo wing guidelines: ⢠Install the main front left and right speaker s at an equal distance from the TV . ⢠For optim um effect, install the rear speakers slightly abo ve ear level. ⢠Install the center speak er above or below the TV so that the sound of the center channel is localized at the TV screen. Precautions: ⢠When installing the center speak er on top of the TV, be sur e to secure it with tape or some other suit able means. Otherwise, the speaker may fall fr om the TV due to external shocks such as earthquakes, endangering those nearby or damaging the speak er. ⢠Do not connect the supplied speakers with an y other amplifier . This may result in malfunction or fir e. ⢠The front, center and surr ound speakers supplied with this syst em are magnetically shielded. Howe ver , depending on the installation location, color dist ortion may occur if the speaker is installed extremel y close to the screen of a tele vision set. If this happens case, turn the power switch of the t elevision set OFF , and turn it ON after 1 5 to 30 minutes. If the pr oblem persists, place the speaker sy stem awa y from the television set. ⢠The subwoofer is not magnetically shielded and so should not be placed near a TV or monitor . Since it is not magnetically shielded, do not place any magnetic st orage media (such as floppy disks and tape or video casset tes) close to the subwoofer . ⢠Do not fix the subwoofer and center speak er to the wall or ceiling; they could cause injury if they fell. Connect the other end to the video output of the D VD/CD receiver . This player is equipped with cop y protection t echnology. Do no t connect this player t o your TV via a VCR using AV cables, a s the picture from this play er will not appear properly on your TV .
